What we keep
Your name, email address (or a child’s username) and role, date of birth, the city, state and country you give us, a phone number (required for parents and adult students, optional for a child), a contact email for a child if their parent gives one, whether you are a brother or a sister, whether you study Hifdh or Qaida, your class, the recitations and qaida readings you send, the qaida steps you finish, and your teacher’s marks, grades, answers and voice notes. Recordings are heard only by you, your teacher while you are in their class, a parent you are linked to, and the institute’s administrators, who listen only to sort out a problem. We never sell any of it.
Your phone number, and a child’s contact email, are only for the institute to reach you or your family. No other student, parent or teacher sees them. A child still signs in with their username.
A student can share their recitation with family: with the accounts they add by email or username, who sign in to listen, or with anyone who has the link, with no account needed. Either way listeners hear the recordings their teacher passed and see only their first name. A child’s recitation is shared by their parent, and the child can see who it’s shared with. A person can be taken off, and the link turned off, at any time, and then it stops working at once.
Recitations made while trying it out, before joining the classes, are kept on your account and no teacher hears them. Joining sends them to your teacher.
Someone recording the whole Qur’an in their own voice keeps those recordings with no time limit. No teacher reviews them, and they’re shared the same way, only as the person (or a child’s parent) chooses. Deleting the account deletes them.
A sister can choose to recite to women teachers only. Then only a woman teacher hears her recordings, and only an administrator who is a woman can play them. A man who teaches a class she was once in can’t.
For teachers, the institute sees how long you work in the app: the minutes it’s open and in use, and on what (reviewing, qaida, classes), beside the reviews you send. Nothing else about what you do is recorded.
The leaderboard is for students who choose to join it. It shows your first name, last initial, city, state and flag, and only to people signed in here. You can leave it at any time from Profile.
Recordings made in the guided demo are deleted from the demo when it ends. The institute keeps a copy for 30 days, which is never shown to anyone, and then deletes it.
Lessons are paid monthly through Stripe, who handle the card details; we never see or store them. We keep the plan’s status, the number of students on it and the date it is paid until. Recording the whole Qur’an is a single payment through Stripe; we keep that it was paid, by whom and when.
It is stored with Cloudflare, who host the app. Each person’s recordings are encrypted with a key of their own, so a copy of the storage on its own can’t be played. Deleting an account deletes its key, and with it any copy of its recordings.
To keep accounts safe we also keep, for each signed-in device, its internet address and the kind of browser or phone, until you sign out or the session ends (after 7 days without use); and for each failed sign-in, the email tried and the internet address, for a day.
How long we keep it: your account and recordings for as long as the account exists. Deleting the account (from Profile, or a parent for their child) deletes them, and anything left in backups is unreadable once its key is gone. Payment records are kept by Stripe as the law requires.
Notifications
If you allow it, the iPhone app and your browser get a notification when your teacher replies and a daily reminder at the hour you choose. Apple delivers them to phones and your browser’s maker to browsers; we keep a token for each phone or browser, and your time zone so reminders come at the right hour. Browser notifications carry no text: the browser fetches it from us when one arrives. Parents get a weekly email about their children, and one when a child has used their free ayat or asks to keep going, sent through Resend. Each can be turned off on Profile, and every email has a link to stop them.
Children
Many of our students are children. Analytics never runs for a signed-in student or on the Noorani Qaida, and neither shows a cookie banner. A child’s qaida stars stay on their device.
Students under 18 are enrolled by a parent or guardian, who makes their account, gives their consent (ticked and saved with the date), chooses whether they appear on the leaderboard, and can change that, reset the password or delete the account at any time. A child signs in with a username, so we hold no email address for them. Their teacher is assigned by the institute. Someone who makes their own account tells us their date of birth, and can’t use it under 18 without a parent. On the Noorani Qaida’s own site, students 13 and over may join their teacher’s class themselves; younger children can’t.
A child can also sign in by asking their parent: the parent’s app shows which device is asking and roughly where (the city, from the connection), and the parent types the number on the child’s screen. We keep that request for a day. If you turn on Face ID or a passkey, your device keeps the key and we keep only its public half, which can’t sign anyone in by itself.
On the Noorani Qaida, a child’s teacher can give their parent a family code. With it, the parent’s account can see that child’s qaida progress and listen to their readings and the teacher’s answers. Each code works once. Nobody else can see the child’s readings, and the parent or the teacher can remove the link at any time.
Analytics cookies
We use Microsoft Clarity, an analytics service, to understand how the site is used, such as pages viewed, taps, scrolling and the type of device. This helps us find and fix problems. Analytics never runs for students or on the Noorani Qaida, text on signed-in pages is masked, audio is never captured, and the data is not used for advertising. Whether it runs depends on where you are. Outside the United States and Canada, in Quebec, and in California, Pennsylvania and Florida, it runs only after you agree. In the rest of the United States and Canada it runs unless you opt out, and in states with a consumer privacy law we tell you so on your first visit. We use your approximate location, worked out from your internet address, to decide which of these applies, and to suggest your city when you join; we keep only the place you then choose.

Your choices
You can change your preferences or opt out at any time. Choosing essentials only does not affect how the site works. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal as essentials only, wherever you are. We don’t sell your data or share it for advertising.
You can delete your account yourself from Profile, and a parent can delete a child’s.
