Lesson 4: Huroofe ‘illat or huroofe maddah

There are three madd letters: ا after a زَبَر, يْ after a زِيْر, and وْ after a پِيْش.

Stretch a madd letter for one alif: about as long as it takes to open or close a finger, never more and never less.
